Bridal Makeup Tips

You may be getting nervous about how your wedding day beauty routine is going to go down if you don't have much makeup experience. In order to look like the natural, beautiful woman you are in your wedding photos (rather than a washed-out apparition or a shiny disco ball), bridal makeup is important, so think about it a little bit ahead. These 7 tips will help you prepare for your big day, whether you're doing your own makeup or hiring a makeup artist!

1) Skin Care Matters!
A good canvas is the foundation for great makeup. Makeup artists are undoubtedly talented, but they are not plastic surgeons! It is impossible for makeup to take you further than it can go, no matter how hard they try. After a certain point, the return on investment diminishes, and less is more often the best choice. What's the secret? Taking great care of your skin is the key to having great makeup. Healthy, hydrated, and well-cared-for skin will enhance any quality makeup. The most beautiful makeup is accompanied by great skin that is well taken care of.

2) Don’t Overlook the Primer
Have you ever painted a house yourself? Is primer important? Primer means you'll need less paint to finish the job. Although painting your house isn't the same as applying makeup to your face, we use this analogy since most people get it. Primer is a non-negotiable for making sure your makeup looks great and lasts as long as possible.

3) Make Sure You Use Concealer
If you aren't one of the lucky 5% who gets enough sleep and never has under-eye circles, you probably need concealer. Make sure you don't try to "cover up" dark spots with a lighter concealer. Less is more. Your eyes shouldn't look like they have white circles. Using a slightly lighter color than your skin tone will "correct" the darkness under your eyes.

4) Don’t Forget About Your Lips
Believe it or not, this also applies to your groom! The best thing you can do for your lips is to take care of them, unless you want to look like a corpse. There's no need to go overboard. Even if you don't wear lipstick or lip gloss, bring Chapstick. Cracked, dry lips will appear very unattractive on camera, and they will totally wash you out. Many brides are apprehensive to go for a bold lip, and we get that! You can also opt for a light pink balm or a simple nude lip that’s exfoliated and moisturized.

5) Use Waterproof Makeup
You've got to make sure all your makeup is waterproof! This extra layer of protection will keep your makeup in place all day. You can blot your tears with a beauty blender if you get a little weepy. Rather than leaving streaks on your skin, the product will get pressed into it.

6) Definitely Do a Trial Look Pre-wedding
There are usually bridal trials separate from your wedding day with freelance makeup artists. You and the makeup artist need to do a trial. You'll feel confident and happy knowing what you're wearing is right for you and will last because you've tried different looks. If you're doing your own makeup, you should also do a trial so you know what you want!

7) Finish With a Good Setting Spray
When you're wearing your dream makeup, nothing beats a setting spray for mental and physical security. During and after makeup application, use this to keep each layer intact! And definitely make sure you finish off your makeup look with a good spritz. It’ll keep your makeup from looking cakey, too!
